Customer Journey with the Captain Mike Mickelson Ketchikan, Alaska

“Alaska is a tough place to build but David, Jeff, and Tanner made it a pleasant experience. I plan on ordering another building from Worldwide steel soon.”

~Mike

American Steel

Captain Mike Mickelson is a Hunting/Fishing guide up in Ketchikan, Alaska. He knew he needed to build with the most durable steel materials that can stand forces of extreme weather conditions, snowy blizzards and heavy winds.

Mike’s new building is constructed of solid steel columns and solid steel trusses that create the strongest type of structure available on the market. His building is rated for Ground Snow load of 55 and Wind Load 143, based on his specific location and design of building.

Structural Framework

Mike’s building is 60 foot wide by 60 foot long with 18 foot side walls.

After the columns and trusses have been set and joined together with bolts, the secondary framing is now ready to be installed. Mike chose to utilize metal for his secondary framing material, which makes his building more structurally sound and resilient to heavy winds and snow loads.

The Outer Shell

Mike chose black metal roofing and ash grey metal siding with a wainscot, two overhead door openings, lots of windows, and several walkout doors to complete the look of his maintenance-free building. These materials provide a long lasting outer shell of the structure for decades to come. His future plans include adding a second floor mezzanine inside with an overhead patio deck on the outside where the upper level walkout door is located.

The movement for economical, efficient structures is leading the construction industry with innovative ways to utilize steel framework and metal materials that are uniquely customizable and built to last a lifetime.

Basic Inner Shell

Mike’s new building installation was finished just in time before his busy season as a tour guide, when the nights are short and days are long. Tourists from all around the world travel to Alaska for group full day and multi-day saltwater charters. He plans to finish up the interior when the season is over.

Another benefit of a steel truss building is that the interior finishing options are endless. Your basic inner shell starts out with an industrial feel and then it’s your choice how you want to create the design that fits your lifestyle. You can use multiple materials such as wood or drywall for the ceilings to the walls. Any type of flooring can also be placed on top of the concrete.

Endless Possibilities

“I love my new shop and I can’t wait to finish the inside when my busy season ends in December.”

~Mike
