Metal Dutch Door

Door design can drastically change the look of your metal building, and the door opening you choose can change the way your building functions, as well. One of the most interesting exterior door choices available at Worldwide Steel Buildings is a Dutch door.

The Dutch door, also known as a stable door, a half door, or a double-hung door, is a door that is hung in a single door frame, but is split in half horizontally. When the two halves of the door are locked together with fasteners, they open like one unit in the door jamb. When fastened together, the Dutch door works like a typical entry door.

When unlocked, the top half (also known as a leaf or panel) of the door can open independently from the bottom half, giving your metal building double the door opening options. This means you can open the top leaf of a metal Dutch door to let light and airflow in, while keeping the bottom leaf closed in order to contain barn animals or keep wild animals out.

Dutch doors are a great option for horse stalls, in addition to a barn door, and as entrances in your building. In certain metal homes, a Dutch door would even make a fantastic front door.

Most Dutch door designs have solid bottom panels, but you have options on the top panel. If you want the top half of your Dutch door to have a screen, a louver, a glass window, a lite fiberglass window, or to be solid as well, we have options.

If you’re looking to add both a classic look and usability to your metal barn, horse arena, or other stainless steel building, consider incorporating Dutch doors into your next project. They provide the durability you’re looking for in a door design with added functionality.

Stainless Steel Dutch Door Details

Worldwide Steel Buildings uses the Equus Dutch Door system from the Plyco door manufacturer. Equus manufactures heavy duty steel Dutch doors to projects. Designed using 16 gauge steel, heavy duty hardware, barrel bolts, and more, the Equus Dutch doors are extra strong and horse safe, providing more durability than a hollow metal door or wood door.

Our design team can help you plan proper location and layout for incorporating Dutch doors. We’ll make sure they won’t interfere with columns, support elements, all while providing function and styling. And if you experience any material defects on your metal Dutch door, you can rest assured it will be covered under our 50-year limited warranty.
